Very interesting idea. Just to note, Yaakov is also blind at the end of his life but in his story, it appears to be exactly the opposite, as he understands better than Yosef the relative merits of Efraim and Menashe.

Thank you so much for the correction! I notice there's an interesting change with Yaakov- his eyes are "kavdu m'zoken"- heavy due to old age- which is not the same term used by either Yitzchak or Eli. I wonder if it indicates something different given, as you say, he DOES understand exactly what his sons are like.
